The four attachment styles

  • Secure: comfortable with intimacy and independence

Where attachment styles come from

Attachment theory began with John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth's research on infants. In the 1980s, psychologists applied it to adult romance. In adult studies, roughly half of people describe themselves as secure.
